How to Make Raisin Pie

Recipe 1: Old-Fashioned Raisin Pie
Makes 1 pie (8 servings)

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups Sun-Maid Natural Raisins
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • 1 double unbaked pie crust

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Combine raisins and water and boil for 5 minutes.
  2. Blend sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and salt.
  3. Add to raisin liquid and cook, stirring until clear.
  4. Remove from heat.
  5. Stir in vinegar and butter/margarine. Cool slightly. Turn into pastry-lined pan.
  6. Cover with top pastry or lattice strips.
  7. Bake at 425° F about 30 minutes or until crust is golden brown.

Recipe 2: Classic Raisin Pie

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 1 tablespoon of vinegar
  • And 1 pastry for double 9 inch crust

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Boil the raisins in water for 5 minutes.Separately in a blender, mix sugar, corn starch, salt and cinnamon.Now, add this mixture to raisins and cook. Keep stirring until clear.
  2. Now, remove the mixture from heat and vinegar and butter. Stir again. Let it cool down for a bit.
  3. Now put the mixture to the pastry lined pan. Cover with top crust. Bake for 30 minutes at 425 degrees until it’s golden brown.
  4. Your Raisin Pie is ready and you can serve it with some vanilla ice cream.
