VISITING THE ROCK
Strategically located at the entrance of Manila bay, Corregidor also known as, “The Rock” is a small rocky island about 48km west of manila. It comes from a Spanish verb “corregir” which means to correct. During the Spanish era, this island became the island of corrector. All the ships entering Manila Bay were required to stop and have their document checked and corrected.
A visit to this former battle ground is a very memorable experience. The ruins of buildings, tunnels and structures in the island tells a very moving story of a war that has claimed so many lives.
HOW TO GET THERE
Tourists may visit Corregidor Island almost any time of the year, except when there is a typhoon or inclement weather conditions. There are several ways to get to Corregidor Island. They strictly follow their schedule on time. Be sure that you’re at the check-in counter 1 hour before the scheduled time of departure which strictly closes 30 minutes before departure. Passengers who arrive after the cut-off time will not be allowed to go on board.
